Word to the Wise on Valentines Day: Real Men Do Romance

This is the annual Valentines Day reposting of Real Men Do Romance, first published in 2013.

Enjoy… and Happy Valentines Day.

Dear Christian and Jared,

Today is Valentine’s Day so it seems a good day to remind you there’s something to be said for good, old-fashioned, romantic rituals. Even though you probably think Valentine’s Day is mostly a money gauging Hallmark-led conspiracy, rest assured girls still like it. And by the way, did you know Valentine’s Day was first linked to romantic love in the mid-14th century before Hallmark even existed? It was a time when courtly love flourished and a gentleman was expected to be noble and chivalrous in expressing his love and admiration for a lady. Sadly, good, old-fashioned romance has fallen out of style these days. read more

TODAY: Not Just Another Ordinary Day

On an ordinary day in 1982 an extraordinary boy asked me to be his partner for an eight-hour dance marathon. I said yes and we’ve been dancing ever since.

Happy 30th Anniversary, Pat!

Can’t wait to see how life unfolds as we dance our way through the next thirty years… and the thirty after that. I love you.

I have no problem with a woman choosing to pursue a career outside the home or choosing to juggle the responsibilities of home and professional life. What I resent is radical, liberal utlra-feminists (a.k.a the false prophets of feminism), who consider themselves superior to those of us who choose to dedicate ourselves to fulfilling the vocation of full-time mother and housewife (dirty words, I know). I resent a woman, deemed by many as worthy of running for President of the United States of America, who trivializes motherhood, reducing it to “baking cookies and having teas.” And liberals have the audacity to accuse conservatives of waging a war on women? read more

What Happens Between the Sheets…

Originally published December 28, 2010

I have a secret, but before I launch into telling you what it is, let me say a few things. First off there is something inherently funny about passing gas. Insert the sound of someone passing gas into just about any situation and BAM! You’ve got instant comic relief. The perpetrator doesn’t even need to be a person. The other day I was sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper. I was scanning the obituaries, which is by no means a funny section, when from beneath the table came that unmistakable combination squeaking-hissing sound. It struck me so funny that I laughed out loud. It was of course, Pudge passing gas. Yes, even the best dog in the whole entire universe passes gas, which is a perfect segue into the next point I would like to make. read more
